Approach

Approach to Therapy

Successful therapy will change your relationship to your environment and your suffering. The goal of therapy is to help you to overcome your limitations, to heal and to grow.
My job as a therapist is to assist the client in becoming aware of what they are doing, how they are doing it, and how they can change it; to support them as they learn to accept and value themselves.
The emphasis is on what is being done, thought and felt at the moment rather than on what was, might be, could be, or should be.
My approach is rooted in training as a Gestalt therapist. Clients and therapists in Gestalt therapy dialogue, that is, communicate their unique perspectives. Differences in perspectives become the focus of experimentation and continued interaction.
In addition to Gestalt, I integrate into my work insights from Psychoanalysis, Psychodrama, Developmental Psychology, Integral Theory, Mindfulness-based Meditation Techniques, Vipassana and Zen.
My approach to gender roles, sexuality and relationships is sex-positive, open-minded and non-judgmental. I understand the importance of sexual expression and intimacy, and I am supportive of my clients’ lifestyle choices and sexual orientation.
My goal as a therapist is to help my clients to gain greater awareness into their lives, and to empower them in making long-lasting changes that lead to more choice, fulfillment and happiness in their lives.
